About

My name is Jack Tol. I am an AI/ML Engineer based in Sydney, specializing in Retrieval-Augmented Generation, conversational AI, and aviation-focused speech and language systems. My work spans deep learning and natural language processing, with a strong emphasis on production-grade AI systems deployed in live operational environments, particularly within airport and air traffic operations where reliability and domain specificity are critical.

I currently work on aviation-specific automatic speech recognition and language understanding at Sydney Airport, fine-tuning models such as Whisper and NVIDIA Parakeet for noisy VHF air traffic control communications. This includes designing and deploying full post-processing pipelines covering entity extraction, call sign grounding, and airport-context enrichment. I also build RAG and agent-style systems over Snowflake data warehouses and internal operational documentation to make complex, high-volume airport data accessible to engineers, analysts, and operational teams.

Alongside my professional work, I develop open-source AI tools and focus on scalable, maintainable production workflows for machine learning systems. I apply hands-on aviation domain knowledge as a licensed pilot, which directly informs system design and evaluation. I hold a Diploma of Information Technology from the University of Technology Sydney.

I also maintain a blog where I share insights from my learning experiences, track my progress, and document the development journey of my projects. I invite you to explore and follow along.
